Cityread

London

Cityread London is a registered charity that promotes the key ideas of reading for pleasure, engaging new library users, enhancing the experience of existing readers, and encouraging people to explore and celebrate London’s culture, landscape and history through its stories.

Look Left Look Right were tasked with bringing these novels to life, using iconic locations that elevated the stories and connected with fans and new audiences.

2014 – My Dear I Wanted To Tell You by Louisa Young

A series of site-specific activations brought the book and characters to life. An audio experience through Kensington Gardens; or a cup of tea with ‘Nadine’ in the National Portrait Gallery cafe converted into a wartime tea room; and a raucous 1920’s style cabaret in Soho Theatre were some of the events staged across London.

2015 – Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch.

The top floor of Westminster Reference Library was converted into a special police department, dedicated to training new recruits of the Supernatural Sciences Branch. In groups of up to 16 people, recruits were given an induction by DS Peter Grant, before meeting characters from Rivers of London.

2017 – Prophecy by S J Parriss

Audiences were transported back to 1583 and invited to a Bishopsgate Almhouse, believed to be Spymasters who may be able to help Giordano Bruno uncover the plot to kill the Queen.
